Our paper titled “A micropillar-based microfluidic viscometer for Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids” is accepted for publication in Analytica Chimica Acta.
Jarrett Boyd presented an iPoster titled “Dual particle trapping using a microfluidic trap” at the EMBL Conference – Microfluidics: Designing the Next Wave of Biological Inquiry.
Our lab is now open, graduate students have started working !

Daniel Angarita has successfully defended his MS thesis titled “Bacteria Analysis by using a Supervised Machine Learning Algorithm based on Droplet Microfluidics“. Congratulations Daniel !
Our paper titled “Droplet-based high-throughput cultivation for accurate screening of antibiotic resistant gut microbes” is accepted for publication in eLife.
We will be opening our lab very soon. We are very excited about getting back to lab to continue our projects.

They won the 3rd Place award in the Outstanding Paper Competition under the 2020 Undergraduate Research & Scholarship Virtual Competition with their paper titled “A microfluidic platform for high-throughput screening of aquaporin performance”.

Our collaborator, William Watterson at the University of Chicago, gave a talk titled “High-throughput isolation and automated sorting of diverse microbiomes reduce biases of traditional cultivation strategies” on our collaborative work at the 2nd International Conference on Microbiome Engineering.

Biomedical Microdevices Lab opening ceremony took place with more than 60 participants including Provost David Dausey, Dean Fevzi Akinci, and our department chair, Dr. John Viator. We thank our administrators and Duquesne community for their continued support.

Our research grant proposal on developing a microfluidic platform for culturing and isolating bacterial species is funded by Samuel and Emma Winters Foundation.
Construction for the Biomedical Microdevices Lab has begun. A Class 1000 cleanroom as well as a microscopy suit will be built in Libermann 415. We are grateful for the support of the Office of the Provost (Dr. Jeff Miller) and Biomedical Engineering Program director Dr. John Viator for the financial support to realize this plan !!
